Hawaiian Kalbi Short Ribs
Ingredients
MARINADE
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 cup Water
- 1/4 cup Mirin
- 1 Asian Pear
- 2 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 tbsp Sesame Seeds
- 1 cup White Soy Sauce
- 1/4 cup Sambal
- 1 Large, Sweet Onion
- 1/4 cup Garlic
- 2 tbsp Chopped Green Onion
MANGO SALSA
- 2 Mangos (peeled and deseeded, then medium dice)
- 1 Sweet Onion, medium dice
- 2 bunches Cilantro, chopped fine
- Salt and Pepper (to taste)
- 4 Tomatoes, medium dice
- 1 Jalapeño, small dice
- 1 Lime, juiced
Ribs
- 5 lbs Thin-cut Bone-in Short Ribs (also called Flanken Beef Short Ribs)

Instructions
MARINADE
- Grind all ingredients together (except green onion and sesame seeds), then bring to a boil and cool.
- Add chopped green onion and sesame seeds.
- Use to marinate the meat.
MANGO SALSA
- Mix the salsa ingredients together.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste and set aside.
SHORT RIBS
- Soak short ribs inmarinade for a minimum of 4 hours to get the flavor incorporated.
- Remove meat from marinade and grill it until caramelizes a little, a couple minutes on each side.
- Serve with steamed jasmine rice and a healthy portion of salsa and enjoy!
