Summer of Mango: Margarita

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, right? If you’re counting down the minutes until happy hour, we have got a treat for you – everyone’s fav, the classic margarita. This salty cocktail has become an American staple, and it’s even the most commonly ordered drink in the country according to National Geographic! That’s a lot of margaritas.

This tequila beauty has many origin stories, but my favorite involves a showgirl. It’s said that a Mexican restaurant owner whipped this up to make tequila tastier for a showgirl named Marjorie. The poor girl was allergic to all alcohol except tequila, and who wants to drink tequila straight? Adding some extra salt and lime sweetens the deal, and now we have the margarita!

If you Google “best margarita recipe” a bunch of different recipes will pop up. It’s hard to say who has the ratio down perfectly, but they all have the same things in common: lime juice, salt, triple sec and tequila. While you can’t go wrong with this classic combo – what about adding a little mango?

When we’re talking matches made in heaven, you can’t forget mango + Tajin. We go together like peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper, and lime, salt and tequila.

This mango-twist on the classic ‘rita adds some needed sweetness to the tart drink, but still packs a punch with a zing of Tajin. We love this one from the Minimalist Baker, which uses fresh mango!

But if you’re looking for a simple, sweet and blended margarita, we got you here at Mango.org. This baby is four ingredients (plus salt!), and as easy as it gets. Combine in a blender and enjoy. The best part of both of these recipes? Completely vegan. So don’t feel too guilty if you indulge a bit.

Tell us in the comments below – what’s your favorite type of margarita, and where will you be enjoying it all summer long?
