Love a Tree Day

Here at the National Mango Board, we’re tree huggers – mango tree huggers, to clarify. We’re constantly on the search for more beautiful mango tree photos. We appreciate a solid drone video of a mango tree field. And we daydream of enjoying a good book under a big mango tree.

That’s why today, we’re taking a moment to celebrate Love a Tree day!

A mature mango tree can reach heights of over 100 feet with a canopy of leaves and fruit spanning over 35 feet. Before producing fruit, a mango tree will flower with beautiful little flowers covering the entirety of the tree. From there, less than 1 percent of the flowers will form fruit.

For a single mango tree, it will take around four months for the fruit to completely mature before they’re ready for harvest. Every mango is harvest by hand, meaning the individual fruit you’re enjoying was chosen by a person as being ripe and ready to be picked.

The mango tree is indeed a special tree. While the fruit it produces is incredibly delicious, it also supports the livelihoods of thousands of workers who pick each fruit by hand. A tree doesn’t get better than that.
