Mangos Down Under! It’s Australian Mango Season
We’re in heart of Australian mango season! While over this way in the U.S., it’s not super easy to find Australian mangos, we know that Australian people LOVE their local fruit.
From September through April each year, there are nine common mango varieties grown in Australian. Some are the same varieties that are grown in Central and South American like the Kent, Keitt and Palmer, but some are fairly exclusive to Australia.

Two of Australia’s favorite mangos are the Kensington Pride and Calypso varieties. Kensington Pride mangos have a strong sweet and tangy flavor with a vibrant orangey-pink skin, while Calypso mangos have a small seed with a deep orange skin. Here in the U.S., you can sometimes find these varieties in specialty or local groceries, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for these juicy beauties!

To celebrate all things mango, our down under counterpart, Australian Mangos host a summer “Mess-tival.” Each December, Australians gather on the beach for mango eating contests, relay races and of course, lots of mango dishes to choose from! Festival goers are encouraged to get messy and enjoy every last bit of their mangos.
