Due to the upcoming holiday season, the November and December issues of the Mango Connection will be combined into one email. But don't worry - we'll still be working hard to promote mangos and conduct research that can help drive your mango business. And, we'll be back to our monthly newsletter schedule in January 2009.

Ingrid Hoffmann Appearance on TODAY Show

On October 22, Ingrid Hoffmann of Food Network's Simply Delicioso appeared on the TODAY show representing the mango industry. She demonstrated an easy way to cut a mango and talked about mangos' year-round availability. The segment had viewership of nearly 5 million consumers and the advertising value (what we would have paid if this segment was paid advertising) was $225,000. Ingrid's recipe and a video clip of her appearance are currently posted on the TODAY show web site. Click here to see Ingrid's appearance.

Jango Geography Teaches Kids About Mangos

Please check out our brand new interactive game and learning experience featuring our very own Jango Mango and a whole cast of fun characters. The game is a fun way for kids to learn about mangos and the countries that send the most mangos to the United States. The game will challenge kids' motor skills and geography knowledge while getting them excited about mangos. Check it out here. We warn you - some of the games are addictive!

Crop Forecast

The NMB works with each producing country to develop projections for mango volumes and timing for the upcoming weeks and months to help you better manage your mango business. As Mexico winds down, Brazil and Ecuador are the current focus of the forecast. Projections from Peru will be added just as soon as we receive the information. Tools & Resources - NEW

We are unveiling a brand new section on our web site called Tools & Resources. This section is a portal to all sorts of information from the NMB, USDA, several universities and many other sources. This section will be growing quickly over the coming months as we add new information and links to help you find the information you need to grow your mango business. The type of information you'll find includes:
  • Mango Statistics
  • Pre and Post-Harvest Resources
  • Foreign Government and Mango Organizations
  • U.S. Produce and Mango Organizations

  • We will continue to build and add to these resources, so please let us know what you need and we'll try to include it in the future.

    Research Reports - NEW

Several projects within the NMB research program have generated final reports or interim reports showing their results. These reports are all available in the industry section of our web site. The newest postings include:
  • Mango Supply Chain Evaluation
  • Fresh-Cut Mangos Review

  • Industry Outreach Meetings

Representatives from the NMB will travel to Peru for the Seventh Annual Peruvian Mango Congress on November 4 and 5. Mango Industry Reception and Photos

If you joined us on October 25 at the Mango Industry Reception - thanks! Be sure to check out all the great information that was included on the USB drive you received when you arrived at the event. Click here to check out some great photos of industry members with Jango Mango. The real Jango was busy at the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., but a life-size cut out of Jango was on hand for photos. We had a great time and the smiling faces in these photos tell the story.

    Next Board Meeting

The NMB's next board meeting will take place in Orlando, Florida on November 19 and 20, 2008. Please see the calendar section for more details.
