Building Our Future on a Foundation of Research

Our research program provides information and insights to support our mission of increasing mango awareness and consumption. As part of our vision, the National Mango Board is charged with doubling consumption of mangos among U.S. consumers in just a few years, and creating a rewarding experience for mango consumers. Both of these objectives will require the mango industry to work hard and reach for solutions to the challenges we face.
We believe that the path to doubling consumption and creating a rewarding experience for mango consumers begins with knowledge. That’s why the research program seeks to present solutions to the specific challenges facing the mango industry, to help us make better decisions and to build credibility for our messages and our organization.
Quality Standard Research and Analysis
Only by delivering excellent quality to consumers on a consistent basis can the mango industry create a rewarding experience for mango consumers. This program is designed to provide a clear understanding of the opportunities to improve handling practices throughout the mango supply chain while gaining critical insight of how best to improve minimum eating quality standards for mango varieties consumed in the U.S. Click here for more details about this research project.
Post Harvest Practices Research
This comprehensive undertaking will generate new knowledge to minimize post harvest losses throughout the mango supply chain. Much of this research is focused on activities that impact mango quality prior to being exported to the U.S. Click here for more details about the projects that make up this part of the research program.
Production Management Practices
Understanding quality starts at the farm, this project is designed to identify and develop information about new techniques and practices that maximize productivity, while improving mango quality. Click here for more details about this research project.
Nutrition and Phytochemical Research
This Project seeks to identify the phytochemical compounds and nutrative values found in the most common mango varieties consumed in the U.S. It explores how those compounds might help maintain human health or impact certain health conditions. We know that consumers respond well to foods that are good for them, particularly those that might help with a particular condition such as diabetes, obesity or cancer. The goal of this program is to identify possible nutrition-related marketing messages for mangos. Click here for more details about the projects that make up this part of the research program.
Category Management
This program uses analytical tools to identify mango trends, opportunities, successful promotional strategies and best practices at the retail marketplace. The goal is to deliver real-world tools that retailers and mango industry members can use to help build their mango business. Click here for more details about the projects that make up this part of the research program.
Crop Forecast Research and Analysis
This ongoing program monitors, forecasts and shares the volume of fresh mangos imported to the U.S. from the main exporting countries. This tool provides reliable, timely trends and information to mango marketers, so they can have a clear understanding of the supply as they plan their marketing efforts.
