Mango Quality Attributes and Grade Standards: A review of Available Information and Identification of Future Research Needs

Objectives:

  • Review the literature about mango quality attributes, including appearance (size, shape, color, defects), texture, and flavor (taste and aroma)
  • Determine if the available information is adequate to propose minimum eating quality standards for mango cultivars consumed in the U.S.
  • Review the U.S. Standards for Grades of Mangos (issued on August 9, 2006) and reccommend revisions to the mango industry, if needed, based on available scientific knowledge
  • Identify future research needs to determine indices of desirable sensory qualities of mangos that will assure consumer satisfaction
