Monitoring and Evaluation of Mango Supply Chain to Improve Mango Quality

Conducted By: University of Florida in collaboration with University of California at Davis
Principal Investigator: Dr. Jeffrey Brecht
Time line: 11/28/2007 – 7/31/2009
Objectives:

  • Monitor the performance of mangos from producer to consumer to identify, quantify, and prioritize the main problems related to mango fruit quality
  • Identify where these problems are occurring and determine practices responsible for quality loss
  • Evaluate and quantify postharvest losses at different stages of the supply chain
  • Identify areas for improvement and the best management practices that deliver consistently good fruit quality
  • Demonstrate how some current management practices contribute to quality problems
  • Develop a Best Management Practices Manual for the mango supply chain, and to present to the NMB a final report with recommendations for improving mango quality

The executive summary and final report for this project are available on request.  Please contact Leo Ortega at lortega@mango.org or 407-629-7318 x104 to request these documents.

Mango Quality attributes and Grade Standards: A review of Available Information and Identification of Future Research Needs.
