Print PageReferendum
USDA is required to administer a continuation referendum for the National Mango Board every five years. This means that eligible mango industry members get to decide if the program should continue. The NMB's first referendum took place from March 15 to 26, 2010. Importers and first handlers who handled 500,000 pounds of mangos or more in 2008 or 2009 calendar year were eligible to vote. Details of the referendum were announced in the Federal Register.
On April 14, 2010, USDA announced via press release that the mango importers and first handlers had voted to continue the National Mango Board. Of the ballots that were received, 73% were in favor of continuing the program.
