As we work to get mango messages out to consumers everyday, we place a special focus on overcoming barriers.  People tell us that they like mangos, but they don’t understand them.  They don’t know how to select, ripen or cut mangos, and they don’t know what to do with them once they get them cut.  Solutions to these challenges are woven into everything we do. Our consumer marketing programs cover print media, broadcast (TV and radio) and direct consumer events.  We also reach consumers through third-party experts, such as nutritionists.  These efforts allow us to reach hundreds of millions of consumers with mango messages.

Mango News Bureau

This program runs year-round and is focused on getting mango stories placed in newspapers, magazines and online.  The efforts include lots of recipes, because that’s what food writers and editors want.  Recipe-focused stories help us get the coverage.  Our year-round approach to news bureau means we have mango stories in place to support every country and every season. You might want to check out our glossary of terms  to make more sense of the following information. For 2009, the news bureau schedule includes:

  • March Mango Madness Press Kit

  • Spring Mango Sangria Mat Release

  • Cinco de Mango Black Bean Salsa Mat Release

  • "A Taste of the Tropics" Full-Color Feature Release

  • Fall/Holiday Mango Popovers Mat Release

  • "Jango Mango’s Fit Family Tips" Blogger Outreach

  • "Mango Leftover Challenge" Recipe Contest and Blogger Outreach

  • Long Lead Publication Outreach

Love Your Mango

This multi-media marketing program features Ingrid Hoffmann sharing her passion for mangos. Timed with Valentine’s Day special meals in mind, Ingrid’s "Love Your Mango" video shows how to ripen and cut a mango and shares her recipe for a romantic "I Heart" Mango Tart. The video played on cable stations across the country and on news station’s web sites nationwide. You can see the video here on our Web site.

Mango Month

Ingrid was back once again to show viewers how to make her Mahi Mango Tostadas as she kicked off Mango Month. Coverage included major national magazines and newspapers coast to coast. Editors loved the idea of kicking off the summer mango season with this creative promotion, which was designed to keep consumers thinking "mangos" all summer long. Rising Mango Star Video Contest

In our second annual cooking contest for kids, we asked young chefs between 8 and 14 to come up with a mango recipe, make a video of them preparing the recipe and post it online to enter the contest. Three finalists will be brought to Hollywood where a panel of celebrity judges will have a very difficult decision to make. We’ve worked with summer camps, kids cooking schools, newspaper writers, bloggers, and online editors, including those at familycircle.com to get the word out and create excitement about the contest and about mangos. Holidays With A Latin Flair

This program is designed to get mango coverage in national magazines during the fall and winter holidays. It featured Ingrid Hoffmann demonstrating Latin-Inspired holiday dishes in a video for TV and the web, and in a hosted lunch attended by food editors of major magazines. The video shoot and editor lunch were hosted by the School of Food and Finance in New York City, and the NMB will donate up to $5000 for the school based on how many times Ingrid’s video is watched on YouTube.
