National Salad Month with Mangos
May is National Salad Month, which means that for thirty-one days (or however many you would like!) we celebrate this great and healthy dish!!
Quick history lesson – the word “salad” actually comes from the French word salade, of the same meaning. In English, the word first appears as “salad” or “sallet” in the 14th century. Food historians credit the introduction of salads to Romans who ate mixtures of greens and dressings. Also, the Babylonians were known to have dressed greens with oil and vinegar 2,000 years ago.
Fast forward to 2012 and here at the National Mango Board we have a modern twist to how we enjoy the endless flavor choices available in a salad. Our favorite option is by including mangos of course! One of our delicious and nourishing salad recipes is the Spinach Salad with Mango Vinaigrette.
This recipe calls for ripe mangos, white balsamic vinegar and blue cheese, among other flavorful ingredients, for a unique yet sensational taste. With only fifteen minutes of preparation time, this is a really quick and easy recipe to use as a compliment to your main course, or as the featured dish itself.
